Purpose: Umbilical hernia are common in the adult population, and prompt repair is advised. We evaluated surgical outcomes of patients that underwent intermittent suture for fascia closure of umbilical hernia without mesh.
Methods: We conducted retrospective analysis of 133 consecutive adult patients that had undergone operations in our hospital February 2014-November 2016. We rendered intermittent suture repair for small (£¼2 cm) primary umbilical hernia (113 cases). Suture was performed from top to bottom. We evaluated complications, recurrence, and chronic pain.
Results: In total, 113 patients underwent intermittent suture repair. Average BMI was 24.2¡¾4.14 kg/m2, and 56 percent are females. There were two recurrences (1.76 percent). Average follow-up was 1.3 years. There were four post-operative wound infections (2.89 percent) and one chronic pain patient. (1.45 percent).
Conclusion: Intermittent suture repair is feasible for small (£¼2 cm) primary umbilical hernia in adult patients.
